Ep 8: Favorite Seasons
Welcome to another episode of B1 English Talks. I'm your host Brandon, and this podcast is here to help you improve your English at the B1 level and feel more confident in your progress. Each episode we'll dive into fun and real-life topics to help you sound more natural and practice your listening skills, so let's get started.
Do you have a favorite season? Some people love the warmth and brightness of summer, while others enjoy the cozy and festive feeling of winter. Seasons can be so different depending on where you live, and they all have something special to offer.
For example, spring is one of the best seasons. It is such a refreshing time of year, with flowers blooming and the weather feeling mild and pleasant. If you enjoy being outdoors, spring is typically perfect for hiking, gardening, or just relaxing in nature.
In contrast, summer is all about excitement and energy. The days are longer and hotter, which means more time to visit the beach or go camping in the mountains. Some people might say that summer is too humid or uncomfortable, but I think it's the best time for outdoor activities.
And summer personally is my favorite season. It's also my birthday season because I'm a Leo August baby. August 1st baby. That's my birthday. And that might have something to do with why I enjoy summer so much. I love the feeling of being wrapped up in the warmth, and getting sweaty on a nice run is honestly something I really enjoy.
Now, if it's too humid, of course, that can be sticky and overwhelmingly hot, and then it's not enjoyable. But when it feels nice, it's breezy, and it's warm, I love it.
Autumn or fall is another beautiful season, right? The air feels crisp, the leaves change to stunning colors, and it's the perfect time for cozy sweaters and warm drinks. If you live in a place with lots of trees, autumn can feel so vibrant and relaxing.
Of course, there's also winter. Some people love winter because of the snow, the holidays, the fireplaces, and the outfits. It's a calm season where you can enjoy staying indoors or playing outside if you love winter sports.
If it snowed every day in my city, which it does not, it very rarely snows here, I'd probably spend all of my time building snowmen or drinking hot chocolate. Whenever it's wintertime, I always remember a really beautiful time of year when it actually used to snow a lot more in my city, and the streets would get super icy.
My grandma lives on this street where the street goes up a hill that's very steep, and it gets really icy, and then we would sled down that hill. Now, it always felt dangerous because this was on a street, so if it was on asphalt and we crashed or something, it's not going to be pleasant. And you know, during that time, we would sled, and then we'd take breaks and go inside, get warm, drink some hot chocolate, and then go out and sled again. It was awesome, and it was a great way to spend time with the family.
When people compare seasons, it's often about the weather. Some people say summer is warmer than spring, but winter is the coldest of all. Others prefer mild and comfortable seasons like spring or autumn. An example of speaking on this in conditionals would be, if it didn't rain so much in spring, it would be the perfect season for me. Or, if winter wasn't so cold, I'd love it more. It's interesting how weather can change how we feel about the year.
So why do seasons matter? Seasons can also change our mood and habits. In the summer, people feel more energetic and want to travel or try new activities. In the fall, life slows down, and everything feels more cozy and comfortable. Each season brings something new, and that's what makes them so exciting.
Again, my favorite season is summer. My least favorite is winter, but I still appreciate the time to spend time with family, the holidays, eating a lot of bad food, getting together with the family, and just spending time together in a warm, cozy place. I love the outfits of winter. I love wearing the winter outfits. I actually hate summer clothes, but I prefer the summer weather and the outdoor activities.
Spring and fall are the mild seasons of the year that I really don't have any opinion either way. They do have probably the best weather where it's not extreme in either way of being too cold or being too hot, but from a personal perspective, they're not really my favorite seasons. They don't really make me feel any type of way.
So, whether your favorite season is something warm and sunny, cool and crisp, or even cold and snowy, every time of year has something special, right? Take a moment to think about your favorite season and what makes it perfect for you.
