Hi everyone, welcome to B1 English Talks. This podcast is here to help you improve your English at the B1 level and feel more confident in your progress. Each episode, we'll dive into fun, real-life topics to help you sound more natural and practice your listening skills. Let's get started.
So in today's episode, we're talking about weekend plans. Weekends are the perfect time to relax, try something new, or spend time with friends and family. Everyone has their own way of enjoying the weekend, don't they? Some people make plans to go out with their friends, try out a new restaurant, or travel somewhere new. Others prefer a quiet weekend, staying home to recharge, or enjoying a good book or movie. It's really up to you how you want to spend it, right? So for me, I have always enjoyed staying home and relaxing on my weekends. I typically just hang out and maybe watch a movie. Sometimes, though, I do enjoy going out with my friends and trying out a new restaurant or going dancing. Since I first learned to dance, bachata, I have always loved to go dancing. Sometimes, you might decide at the last minute to do something different than what you originally planned. Maybe you were going to stay home, but your friends invited you to go out and you thought, why not? Or perhaps you were going to go somewhere, but the weather changed and you chose to stay inside instead. For me, what would I do if the weather changed and interrupted my weekend plans? If I had plans set with a friend and it was storming really bad, my friends would understand if I decided to cancel. So if it's storming really bad, I will just cancel and we will make plans for another day. And that's typically what I would do.
It's always nice when you have the option to change plans if you feel like it. And if you've been feeling stressed during the week, it's great to take time for yourself, recharge, and just relax. Recharging is relaxing. It's like charging your phone, getting your battery back to 100%. That way, when the next week starts, you feel ready for everything that's coming. Have you ever missed a chance to do something because you were too busy? Maybe you forgot to make plans and then the weekend was gone before you knew it. If you had planned earlier in this case, you might have been able to enjoy more activities or see more people. But sometimes, it's just nice to leave the weekend open with no plans. For me, I'm like that. Sometimes I make my plans ahead of time, like a weekend, and I'm ready to go dancing or spend time with friends or just relax. And sometimes my weekends are open and I just get to the weekend and I'm like, hey, does anyone want to go out? I just decided in the moment that I want to go do something. That's for me, partially. I like to keep it open, keep it free. If you don't have any big plans, you can always just enjoy the freedom of doing whatever you like in this case. And if you decide later to go out, it's not too late to change your mind. A weekend is about having time for yourself and for fun, whatever that might mean for you. Some weekends, you might decide to spend time with people and other weekends, you might just take it easy and relax at home. It's all about balance. Sometimes you have had a busy week and you need to relax. Sometimes you had an easier week and you want to go out and have a good time with your energy.
If you have a busy week ahead of you, it's especially important to take time for yourself, even if that means doing nothing at all or just watching a movie or just relaxing. So what about you? How do you like to spend your weekends? Do you make plans ahead of time or do you prefer to decide as the weekend goes? Maybe you had planned but changed them last minute. Let me know.
